Concept51 Overview

Site Description

What's going on here then?

This site is intended to fulfill two goals: the first being a shop window for Concept51 commercial services and the second being a free resource for help and advice for the often neglected computer and web neophytes.

In line with the above-stated goals, the site is structured in two parts. The first - including this page - is made up of mainly static information describing the services I offer to my clients. The second part - help and advice - will be a more dynamic series of articles, in several categories, intended to ease open the doorway into these new technologies. I have been supporting computer users, of varying levels of experience, for almost 30 years so I am well aware of how intimidating the learning curve can appear. I'm hoping to show that there are many aspects of the digital age that can be enjoyed, either as a tool or as a hobby, by the relative novice.

These are early days in the development of this concept. Hopefully, within a few short weeks, there will be much more of interest to view here. Please come back and watch it grow.

Commercial Services

Local and Online

As the heading above suggests, the services I offer fall into two categories. By "local" I mean services which require visits in person and examples of this would include:

  • Home or Office Tutorials
  • PC Installation and Upgrades
  • Network Installation (including Broadband and Wireless)

"Online" services are mainly concerned with creating an online presence, including:

  • Website design
  • Content (copy) writing
  • Web logistics such as domain registration and hosting

Obviously, this is a collaborative process. One aspect I am particularly keen on is to collaborate on Web Biographies: if you have a life story you would like to see presented online, then I am here to help.

Articles

Help, advice and tutorials.

As you can see in the left column navigation bar - these articles are to be found under the various category headings. I had started to develop a Blog for this content but eventually decided that the format didn't suit my requirements. I might revisit that idea at a later stage, or look at alternatives such as a Content Management System (CMS). However, if you are already feeling a little lost at the mention of Blogs and CMS, then these articles are for you. I will be adding basic, plain-English information and advice on many aspects of computing and the internet.

The category headings are fairly self-explanatory so I will not go into a long discussion about content right here and now. Each category will have an index page containing a list of the articles within. I must stress that these articles are not written for the technically advanced: they are intended to be read by people who have perhaps attempted to find their way around the home PC or the internet but seem to be missing the basic pieces of knowledge that others seem to take for granted.
