Whether you are a budding Andy Warhol or you don't have a single artistic bone in your body, the one thing you will use your computer for at some stage is some kind of graphics manipulation. You might want to erase that one-night-stand lover from your favourite holiday snaps or fix that annoying red spot in the eyes ... however simple the task, there is something to learn about working with pictures on PC's. Just to make it clear: 2D is the flat picture you would see in a magazine or you would produce on your digital camera. 3D is working with graphical objects that you can turn around (like a sculpture) inside the application. 3D animation is used in movies like Shrek and Toy Story. Computer games rely heavily on 3D graphics.
